POKER GAME CLASSIFICATION

1 - DRAW POKER: Each player receives a certain number of cards, depending on the dealer, that other players cannot see. Players can exchange their cards one or several times, depending on the game.
2 - STUD POKER: Each player receives one card at a time. The game has different variations where cards are shown to all players or, where cards are drawn face down. The exchange of cards is not possible.
3 - The Community Card Poker: Each player is dealt privately several cards. Then community cards are dealt to make a complete poker hand. Players are looking for the best combination with their private deal as well as with the community deal. Today the Community Card Poker and in particular the Texas Hold'em poker, is the most popular variation of all poker games.

THE APPEARANCE OF MODERN POKER

Throughout the centuries the game of Poker has been growing in popularity, but it really came in fashion in 1970 during the first edition of the World Series of Poker. Champions like Doyle Brunson, Johnny Moss, and Amarillo Slim became world known. First books on the strategy of poker written by the leading experts of the game make their first appearances. For instance “The Bible of Poker: Super System” by Doyle Brunson (written in collaboration with Chip Reese), “The Book of Tells” by Mike Caro, and finally “The Theory of Poker” by David Slansky. Today these three books are still considered as references in their field.

THE DEVELOPMENT OF POKER DURING THE 2000’s

The game of Poker sees its unprecedented popularity the day it became transmitted live on the TV with the invention of cameras that show the cards held buy players.
The broadcast of the World Poker Tour, then of the World Series of Poker using that revolutionary device exploded the number of TV audiences watching the game live.
The next turning point in the history of the game came in 2003 when Moneymaker won the title of the world champion of Poker against Sam Fahra after becoming qualified by a satellite tournament and winning $11. From then on the game of Poker became a genuine world fashion phenomenon.
Today almost everyone heard about or plays Poker himself. Any one of us can dream of playing with a world known champion or even of winning a world tournament. Professional Poker players become stars thanks to TV programs like “High Stakes Poker”, “Poker After Dark”, and so on. The number of players participating in famous world tournaments of Poker explodes due to qualification games proposed by all poker internet sites.

THE HOLD’EM NO LIMIT : the fashionable variation.

Several Poker games dominate the modern poker scene. Before the arrival of the television the most famous form of Poker was the STUD. However since several years one particular variation stands out for being the most telegenic of others: the HOLD’EM NO LIMIT. 99% of all the poker players play almost exclusively this variation of the game. That’s why virtually all the new players assimilate the game of Poker to the HOLD’EM NO LIMIT.
